In 1976, Tanda Tula became the first East African inspired luxury tented camp in South Africa. Re-opening in May 2023 with a fresh look and lighter footprint, old-fashioned values and service still distinguish Tanda Tula today. Situated in the central region of the private, unfenced Timbavati Game Reserve, the camp is ideally located to view the wandering wildlife from the mighty Kruger. Remember to bring your camera to lunch, as the entire main area offers some excellent photo opportunities!

Tanda Tula Plains Camp, our home for the next year, is a spacious and welcoming homestead complemented by light-filled interiors and views in all directions.
The interiors have been filled with Tanda Tula pieces and the central area offers a beautiful lounge, dining area and library all opening onto the deep verandah overlooking the rolling plains of the Timbavati and the mountains beyond.

THE ROOMS
Tanda Tula offers a modern twist to safari-ing with their nine canvas and glass suites while the interiors honour South Africa's Tsonga people, which put guests in the heart of the bush without compromising on comfort. Enjoy uninterrupted views of the riverbed beyond from the bed, bathtub or your private pool. A field camp is used for overnight safaris and provide the comfortable, luxurious alternative to old fashioned camping in the middle of nowhere.

ACTIVITIES
The Tanda Tula guides are specialist trackers, making the walking safaris the most rewarding activity. Pick between a two-hour or four-day walk to learn all about the intricacies of the bush. Game drives in open-sided 4x4's should not be underestimated though. These vehicles allow you to see over private, self-drive cars and your guide will help you spot the action. Bush dinners and breakfasts allow you to spend a bit more time in one, magical place.
GAME DRIVES
Together, tracking big game on foot in the Timbavati, our highly trained trackers and guides reveal the tempos of the wild through their insight and skill. Field Camp is an exclusive use, off the grid camp nestled between the confluence of the Mopono and Nhlaralumi Rivers.
There is a lot to explore at Tunda Tula - Early morning and late afternoon walking safaris, Wildlife tracking on foot, evening game drive (optional), picnic brunch, sundowners, interactive cooking, and campfire dinners.
The quiet, tender moments also make up an unforgettable game viewing experience
THE PROPERTY
Taking in the beauty of the Nhlaralumi River, the open-sided restaurant, bar and relaxation area immerse you in nature. The camp has been designed to be as sociable or private as you like including the tempting Wellness Nest, 'floating' deck, fire pit and infinity pool overlooking a waterhole where elephants and buffalo visit regularly.
